Yorker Ecological Educational Park for Belizean Biodiversity
One major problem that we face as students of Edward P. Yorke is the inundation of excess water. The school was built on land that was once swampy. The area was ineffectively filled with soil to raise the land to a suitable height. As a result, every time it rains the land floods in certain areas. Our solution to the problem is to create a mini ecological park with the inundated water. This pre-designated area will feature a pond with a purifying system. This project will also simultaneously include a hydroponics garden to supply the school community with fresh vegetables. The ecological park will also provide an onsite location for students to carry out ecological studies in a live laboratory setting.
